Cardiology follow up after heart attack angioplasty or stent

Urgent help

If you have chest pain, or symptoms like those you had during a heart attack, call 999. Do not wait for a reply to this appointment form.

Introduction

After a heart attack, coronary angioplasty or stent, regular review helps keep your treatment on track. A cardiology follow-up consultation is a chance to discuss how you are recovering, your medicines and how to lower the risk of further heart problems. This routine appointment pathway is not an emergency service.

What a follow-up consultation may cover

The consultation can cover any symptoms since your heart attack or procedure, your medicines, blood pressure, cholesterol and other risk factors, and the results and letters from your hospital care. Bring a list of your medicines and any discharge summary or procedure report.

Possible investigations

Tests depend on your situation. A resting ECG can be carried out at all three clinics. An echocardiogram or a longer heart rhythm recording may be recommended; these are carried out at Cobham Clinic in Luton and arranged at another venue for patients seen in London.

Medicines after a stent or heart attack

Do not stop or change the medicines prescribed after a stent or heart attack, especially blood-thinning medicines, without advice from your cardiologist or GP.

Further procedures

If further investigation or treatment is needed, invasive coronary angiography and coronary angioplasty are among the services at Cobham Clinic in Luton, and are arranged at another venue for patients seen in London. Treatment decisions depend on the individual clinical situation.

Consultation locations and next steps

Follow-up consultations are available at Harley Street Specialist Hospital, Harley Fitzrovia Health in Woodford and Cobham Clinic in Luton, and telephone or video consultations may also be possible. Contact the team to confirm the appropriate appointment arrangements.
